China’s Neighborhood Policy Aims to Build Secure, Prosperous Region: NPC spokesperson

BEIJING: The basic guideline of Chinese diplomacy is to develop friendship and partnership with neighbors, secure prosperous neighborhood and uphold the principles of sincerity, amity, mutual benefit, and inclusiveness, a spokesman of the National People’s Congress, China’s top legislature said on Monday.

China has given high priority to its neighboring nations in its overall diplomatic work, Lou Qinjian, spokesperson for the second session of the fourteenth NPC, briefed the media on the session slated to run from March 5 to 11.

He said that over the past ten years, President Xi Jinping has visited many of China’s neighbor countries which have provided strong impetus to developing good neighborliness.

Lou said, with concerted efforts of different parties, China has joined hands with regional states to keep on the right path of long-lasting good neighborliness and share prosperity and progress.

China has worked to build a community with a shared future for mankind and it produced a lot of fruits, he added.  

He said that a close China-Asian community with a shared future is now advancing with good momentum.

The BRI has delivered more real benefits and many regional countries have joined the mega-project and a large number of projects have served as models as well as become important drivers for social and economic developments in respective nations, he said.

China’s Economic, Trade Policies

The spokesperson said that economic and trade cooperation is increasing between China and regional nations forming the world’s largest and most promising FTA. China and ASEAN have been large trading partners for many years, setting an example against the headwinds of anti-globalization.

Regarding the South China Sea, he stressed that Beijing will continue to safeguard its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests.

At the same time, we will properly handle relevant problems with relevant countries through dialogue and consultation and jointly safeguard peace and tranquillity in the South China Sea, he said.
