DOHA: China’s special envoy for Afghanistan, Yue Xiaoyong, expressed optimism following a two-day UN-led meeting in Doha, and said that he now realizes regional countries and the international community at large believe they should engage with the Islamic Emirate (IEA) to ensure sustainable peace and reconstruction, Ariana News reported.

Speaking to Ariana News in Doha, Yue underscored the importance of dialogue between the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) and the international community for achieving sustainable peace and reconstruction.

“For the first time, Afghanistan has the opportunity to hold the fate of this country in their own hands, free from foreign occupations,” Yue remarked. “We hope that Afghanistan and its people can seize this historic opportunity to achieve lasting peace, stability, security, prosperity, and foster good neighborly relations with all its neighbors, including China, and with the rest of the world.”

Yue’s comments come after the conclusion of the third UN-led meeting in Doha, which brought together special envoys and representatives from over 25 countries and organizations to discuss pertinent issues related to Afghanistan’s future.

The participation of the ruling Islamic Emirate government in this meeting marked a significant step toward engaging with the international community diplomatically.

The discussions in Doha centered on strategies for advancing peace and stability in Afghanistan, amidst ongoing challenges and opportunities presented by the new governance structure under the Islamic Emirate.

Yue Xiaoyong reiterated China’s commitment to supporting Afghanistan’s development and fostering regional stability. He emphasized the need for inclusive dialogue and cooperation to address the multifaceted challenges facing the country, including humanitarian concerns and economic recovery.
