BEIJING: China has said its security agencies found another incident of spying in which the British Secret Intelligence Service, MI6, used a foreigner in the country to gather secrets information.

China’s Ministry of State Security on its WeChat social media account on Monday revealed that the MI6 established an intelligence cooperative relationship with a foreigner in 2015, who was in charge of an overseas consulting agency.

After that, M16 directed the man to enter China several times, and asked him to use his public identity as a cover to collect China-related intelligence for British spying.

China’s government in a statement said that the MI6 also carried out professional intelligence training for the person in Britain and other places, and gave him special espionage equipment for intelligence cross-linking.

The government said that after investigation, the state security organs promptly found evidence of the involvement of the person identified as Huang in espionage activities, and took criminal action him.

Meanwhile, the British government has said that Chinese spies are targeting its officials in sensitive positions.  It is pertinent to mention that recently, a researcher in Britain’s parliament denied he was a Chinese spy.

China has been condemning the assertions with a foreign ministry spokesperson saying they were entirely groundless.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning at a press briefing said that Beijing urge London to stop spreading disinformation and stop political manipulation against China.

The government has been warning its citizens in the country and abroad of the dangers of getting caught up in espionage activities.
