China’s Telecom Sector Registers Stable Growth in 2022

BEIJING: China’s telecommunications industry preserved steady expansion in revenue in 2022, from January to October, with emerging businesses such as cloud computing posting rapid growth.

According to official data received here showing combined operating revenue of the sector reached over 1.32 trillion yuan (about 185 billion U.S. dollars) from January to October 2020, recording an 8 percent rise as compared to the previous year.

Emerging Businesses Records Increase in Revenue

In the reports received from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology during the mentioned period emerging businesses such as cloud computing, internet data centers, etc recorded an increase in revenue. Meanwhile growing telecom giants including China Telecom, China Mobile, and China Unicom recorded a jump of 33.1 percent as compared to the previous year and reached 256.3 billion yuan.

Moreover, revenue from cloud computing and big data ascended 127.8 percent and 59.3 percent, respectively, while that from data centers logged recorded an increase of 12.7 percent.

5G network development in China has continued to advance. The number of 5G base stations touched 2.25 million till October 2022, a net increase of 825,000 against the previous year.__App
