BEIJING: Wang Tongzhou, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and chairman of Beijing-based China Communications Construction Co Ltd, said that they must uphold the values of broad consultation, cooperative contribution, and shared advantages in order to promote Belt and Road initiative growth.
In an interview with China Economic Net, he said that encouraging green technologies, international cooperation, and policy support for green finance are crucial.
Wang stressed the need for strengthened international cooperation, emphasizing the promotion of green technology and policy support for green finance to boost sustainable development. He also emphasized aligning with international green standards and enhancing the development of environmentally friendly projects within the Belt and Road framework.
Offering specific suggestions, Wang proposed establishing a coordination mechanism for overseas investments by state-owned enterprises to support each other in expanding their overseas operations. He also advocated for increased support for the development and application of green technology, aiming to reduce carbon emissions and energy consumption across the industrial chain.
Furthermore, Wang highlighted the importance of conveying China’s commitment to green development globally and aligning green Belt and Road construction with international efforts on climate change and biodiversity. He emphasized executing green infrastructure, energy, and transportation projects in line with the “Two Mountains” concept introduced by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Lastly, Wang called for accelerating the adoption of green standards, both domestically and internationally, and facilitating the global dissemination of China’s regulations and standards. He believed that these efforts would encourage more enterprises to explore opportunities for internationalizing Chinese standards and technologies through project construction.
