Chinese Mobile IoT Connections Account for 70% of World’s Total

ISLAMABAD: China’s mobile Internet of Things (IoT) users have expanded incredibly. At the end of 2022, the number of IoT connections reached about 1.845 billion, an increase of 447 million from the same period in 2012, accounting for 70 percent of the world’s total, according to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information.

At the end of 2022, about 10.38 million mobile communication base stations had been set up across the country, a net increase of 870,000. Meanwhile, Narrow Band Internet of Things (NB-IoT), 4G and 5G networks have been under mutual development, covering more areas. Among them, only the NB-IoT covers the largest area in the world, with prominent cities and towns across the country, China news service reported.

Statistics revealed that as of the end of the year 2022, the total number of terminal connections of the concerned mobile network exceeded 3.528 billion in China, among which the number of end users of mobile IoT was about 161 million more than that of cell phone users, accounting for 52.3 percent of the total.

The IoT industry chain in China covers chips, terminals, modules, software, service, and platform. NB-IoT has been applied to water meters, smoke sensing, air meters, tracking, and mobile IoT terminals are applied to public services, the internet of vehicles, smart home, smart retail, etc.
