Chinese PM Applauds Launch of 2024 ASEAN-China People-to-People Exchanges

BEIJING: Chinese Premier Li Qiang congratulated the launch of the 2024 ASEAN-China Year of People-to-People Exchanges in a letter, highlighting the deep-rooted cultural ties and historical connections between China and ASEAN nations.

Li’s congratulatory letter highlighted the strong momentum in the China-ASEAN comprehensive strategic partnership, emphasizing the fruitful cooperation outcomes and ongoing progress in building a shared future.

Li Qiang said that together, they have significantly contributed to the diverse and rich Asian culture, fostering splendid civilizations.

The Southeast Asia region, historically vital on the Maritime Silk Road, has witnessed continuous friendly interactions and economic engagement, exemplified by Chinese navigator Zheng He’s seven voyages and beyond, he said. 

Li noted the robust growth momentum in the China-ASEAN comprehensive strategic partnership, showcasing successful cooperation in various sectors and ongoing strides in establishing a shared future for the China-ASEAN community.

Referring to President Xi Jinping’s vision, Li expressed the hope to utilize the Year of People-to-People Exchanges to foster mutual understanding, strengthen bonds between the two sides, over 2 billion people, and contribute to the development of a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future. 

Laos’ Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, the rotating chair of ASEAN, also extended congratulations in a separate letter to the launching ceremony.
