Chinese Premier Wishes Ursula von der Leyen on Re-election

BEIJING: Chinese Premier Li Qiang extended congratulations to Ursula von der Leyen on her reelection as President of the European Commission in a message emphasizing China’s commitment to strengthening relations with the European Union (EU).

Li underscored the significance of the European Commission and expressed China’s appreciation for its role and influence.

Highlighting the current positive momentum in China-EU relations, Li emphasized the steady development of bilateral dialogue and cooperation, yielding beneficial outcomes.

He reiterated China’s readiness to collaborate closely with the EU to solidify the political foundation of their relations, enhance mutual trust, and expand comprehensive and mutually beneficial cooperation.

Li further expressed China’s commitment to working together with the EU to tackle global challenges, thereby contributing significantly to the well-being of both populations and promoting global stability and prosperity.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen had  secured a second term on July 18, supported by a pledge to establish a pan-European “defence union” and maintain momentum on Europe’s green transition while lessening its impact on industry.
