BEIJING: Chinese President Xi Jinping departed for San Francisco on Tuesday to meet with his United States counterpart, President Joe Biden, as reported by state media.

“President Xi Jinping departed Beijing on the evening of November 14 aboard via a special plane, invited by United States President Biden for the China-US presidents’ meeting in San Francisco,” state broadcaster CCTV reported.

The China-US leaders’ summit is expected to involve extensive discussions on strategic, general, and directional matters concerning bilateral relations, along with major issues related to global peace and development, said Chinese’s foreign ministry in a statement.

They will meet on the sidelines of the APEC summit in the Californian city, marking their first meeting in a year amid trade tensions, sanctions, and contentious discussions surrounding Taiwan that have strained relations between the world’s two largest economies.
