DUSHANBE: Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Dushanbe on Thursday for a significant state visit to Tajikistan, marking a continuation of diplomatic ties between the two nations at the invitation of President Emomali Rahmon, China’s official news agency Xinhua reported.

Tajikistan held a grand ceremony to welcome President Xi Jinping, underscoring the importance of the visit in strengthening bilateral relations. Experts and officials in Tajikistan have expressed optimism about the potential outcomes of the visit, anticipating enhanced cooperation across various sectors that could directly benefit both countries.

The relationship between China and Tajikistan, established over three decades ago, has seen remarkable growth, particularly in economic, political, social, and cultural domains. In 2017, Presidents Xi Jinping and Emomali Rahmon solidified this partnership with a joint statement establishing a comprehensive strategic partnership during President Rahmon’s visit to Beijing.

Highlighting the significance of President Xi’s visit, Qanoatullo Saifulloev, deputy director of Khovar News Agency, emphasized the continuous upward trajectory of bilateral relations. “Our political, economic, social, and cultural ties are expanding annually. We are confident that this momentum will persist and continue to serve the interests of both peoples,” Saifulloev remarked.

Saifulloev underscored China’s pivotal role as the leading investor in Tajikistan’s economy, contributing significantly to economic growth, job creation, and the advancement of social and infrastructural projects within the country. “Chinese enterprises are actively engaged across various sectors in Tajikistan, fostering mutual understanding and development,” he added.

Abdurahim Juraev, a professor at the Tajik State University of Law, Business, and Politics, highlighted the growing popularity of Chinese language studies in Tajikistan. “Chinese language courses are now offered in nearly all universities across Tajikistan, reflecting the rising interest and recognition of China’s cultural and economic significance,” Juraev explained.

Moreover, Juraev pointed out the potential for scientific collaboration between the two nations, emphasizing the applicability of China’s scientific achievements in various sectors critical to Tajikistan’s development. “Scientific seminars and joint initiatives between Chinese and Tajik scientists can further enrich our bilateral ties,” Juraev suggested.
