BEIJING: The Palestinian-Israeli conflict presents a severe and imminent danger to peace and stability in the Middle East, according to Cheng Xizhong, a researcher at the Southeast Asia Research Center of the National Regional Research, National Civil Affairs Commission, Southwest University for Nationalities.

Currently, the United States is supplying Israel with armed equipment, and with strong US support, Israel is conducting indiscriminate carpet bombings on the Gaza Strip, including refugee camps, resulting in new and increasingly severe humanitarian crises.

US-Aided Israeli Bombings Raise Alarms About Middle East Peace

Given this situation, Xizhong urges the United Nations and the international community to intensify their efforts to compel the warring parties to immediately cease fire. Failing to do so may lead to an uncontrollable situation with unimaginable consequences.

Palestine has expressed its willingness to engage in a ceasefire and peace talks. Israel plays a pivotal role in the ceasefire, and Xizhong asserts that as long as the international community can halt Israel’s bombing of the Gaza Strip, there remains hope for peace and peace talks.

Therefore, the international community should primarily exert significant pressure on Israel to secure an immediate truce.

Currently, the situation in the Gaza Strip is dire, with Israel’s blockade causing shortages of water, electricity, and essential materials for the residents.

In response to these conditions, the Egyptian people have extended a helping hand to the Palestinians, delivering supplies on foot. Xizhong believes this act demonstrates the conscience and humanity of mankind.

He further posits that Egypt, as a major power in the Middle East, can play a significant role in facilitating a ceasefire and ending the conflict.
