BEIJING: Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong on Friday said that China and Pakistan should expand cooperation and coordination in different fields in the new year.
During a meeting with Pakistan’s ambassador to China Moin-ul-Haque, he said that the two countries should increase the institutional exchanges between their corresponding departments and take the tenth anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) as an opportunity to increase the efficiency and quality of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
He said that the Pak-China friendship has withstood various tests and grown stronger with the passage of time. President Xi Ping’s visit to Pakistan in 2015 has proved a milestone in the history of bilateral ties.
He further said that the successful visit to China of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and his meeting with the Chinese president have provided new impetus to the development of bilateral ties.
He added that China was ready to work with Pakistan to further consolidate relations.
Ambassador Haque stressed that Pakistan will continue effective and practical steps to fight terrorism and protect the Chinese citizens and institutions in the country.

He wished a happy Chinese New Year to the citizens of China and thanked China for its long-term help and support to Pakistan.
He termed the Chinese president’s 2015 visit to Pakistan a historical visit and said it opened a new chapter in bilateral relations. –APP
