NEW YORK: Irish actor Cillian Murphy, who recently portrayed J. Robert Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s biopic, is now expressing interest in playing Ken, Barbie’s iconic beau, in the sequel if it ever comes to fruition.

Murphy’s outstanding portrayal as the “father of the atomic bomb” in the movie ‘Oppenheimer’ has earned him critical acclaim and is being regarded as one of the best performances of his career. However, the ‘Peaky Blinders’ star is open to taking on a completely different role as Ken in the potential sequel ‘Barbieheimer,’ alongside Margot Robbie’s Barbie.

In a recent interview, when asked if he would be interested in stepping into Ryan Gosling’s shoes to portray Ken, Murphy enthusiastically replied, “Sure, yeah! Let’s read the script and let’s have a conversation.”

While Murphy is excited to explore the possibility of playing Ken, he also expressed his anticipation for watching the film ‘Barbie,’ featuring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. He praised the release of both ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’ as significant events for cinema, adding, “I think it’s great for cinema to get all these great movies happening this summer.”

In the box office clash of Summer 2023, Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’ and Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’ competed in a battle dubbed ‘Barbenheimer.’ The fantasy film centered around Mattel’s iconic dolls, ‘Barbie,’ made a remarkable debut, grossing a total of $162 million at the domestic box office. On the other hand, ‘Oppenheimer,’ delving into the creation of the atomic bomb, secured $82.4 million.
