ATTOCK, Pakistan: The Attock jail administration has declined to present Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief, Imran Khan, before the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in the Cipher case, citing security concerns.

The jail administration has expressed apprehensions about transferring Imran Khan from the jail to the court due to potential security threats. Consequently, Attock jail officials have requested that the court exempt the former prime minister from appearing in the court on September 25.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) had earlier scheduled the hearing for Imran Khan’s bail plea in the Cipher case. The registrar’s office issued the cause list, and the bail application was set to be heard by IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq on Monday.

Imran Khan was sent to jail on August 5 following his conviction in the Toshakhana case.

The Cipher case revolves around allegations that Imran Khan, along with the PTI vice-chairman, deliberately concealed a copy of a diplomatic cipher. The case was registered on August 15 under the Official Secrets Act, initiated by a complaint from the Home Secretary.

The case gained attention when Azam Khan, the former principal secretary to the PTI chairman and former prime minister, made startling revelations. He claimed that the former prime minister had used a US cipher for his “political gains” and to evade a potential vote of no confidence against him. Azam Khan, who had been missing for several months, reappeared and provided these revelations while recording his statement under the CrPC 164 before a magistrate.
