SRINAGAR, Occupied Kashmir: Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti has raised observations regarding the evolving landscape of cricket in India, expressing her disapproval of the increasing militarization of the sport under the current leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Mufti fondly recalled a time when cricket matches between India and Pakistan were seen as opportunities for cultural exchange, with leaders like Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Pervez Musharraf attending games in each other’s countries.

She lamented the departure from this spirit of goodwill, emphasizing that cricket should be played in a true sporting manner, fostering camaraderie instead of being marred by a sense of rivalry akin to a war.

The statement underscores broader concerns about the influence of politics on sports and its potential repercussions on the historic cultural ties between India and Pakistan.
