WILMINGTON, Delaware: A civilian aircraft entered restricted airspace near President Biden’s Delaware residence on Saturday, prompting a swift response from the Secret Service.

The incident occurred shortly after 2 p.m, as confirmed by Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi in a statement posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

“Shortly after 2 p.m Saturday, a civilian aircraft violated restricted airspace north of Wilmington, Delaware,” Guglielmi’s statement read. “As a precaution, assets were scrambled to intercept, and the civilian aircraft safely landed at a nearby airport.”

Despite the breach of restricted airspace, there were no disruptions to the President’s movements, and he was not at risk during the incident. Agents from the United States Secret Service are now conducting an investigation in coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to determine the circumstances surrounding the airspace violation.

In response to the breach, a fighter aircraft and a helicopter were dispatched to escort the unauthorized aircraft out of the restricted airspace after its presence was initially detected, as detailed in a release from Guglielmi.

President Biden maintains a residence in Wilmington, Delaware, a state where he previously served as a senator before ascending to the vice presidency and ultimately the presidency. Notably, the Wilmington residence gained attention earlier in the year when classified documents from his tenure as vice president were discovered there in January.
