CJP-led Five-member Bench to Hear Petition Against Audio Leaks Commission Tomorrow

ISLAMABAD: A five-member bench led by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Umer Ata Bandial will hear the petition filed by President Supreme Court Bar Association against the Audio Leaks Commission, tomorrow (Friday).

The bench comprises CJP Bandial, Justice Ijazul Ahsan, Justice Munib Akhtar, Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi, and Justice Shahid Waheed. The bench will start proceedings on Friday (May 26) at 11am.

The Petition was filed by President Supreme Court Bar Association Abid Shahid Zuberi against the commission formed recently. He termed forming of the commission on the issue against Articles, 9, 14, 18, 19, and 25 adding that the constitution did not allow phone taping to anyone. The petition also maintained that forming a commission was a direct interference in the jurisdiction of the Supreme Judicial Council.

Audio Leak Commission

On May 20, the incumbent government announced a three-member inquiry commission led by one of the senior-most judges of the Supreme Court, Justice Qazi Faez Isa to probe the recently leaked audios related to the judiciary and judges. Other members of the commission included CJ Islamabad High Court Justice Aamer Farooq and CJ Balochistan High Court Justice Naeem Akhtar.

The commission initiated the investigation process on Monday and announced that proceedings related to the case would be made public unless there would be any sensitive matter related to the State.
