DARAA, Syria: In Syria’s Daraa province, local factions clashed and a group reportedly affiliated with ISIS resulted in the death of eight individuals, including a prominent leader.
Daraa, historically significant as the epicenter of the 2011 uprising against President Bashar al-Assad, has faced ongoing instability despite government forces’ return in 2018 following a reconciliation agreement with opposition forces.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported the fatalities, noting that the deceased ISIS-affiliated leader played a crucial role in strengthening connections between the group’s cells in the southern region.
Daraa continues to experience periodic attacks and clashes, with some incidents claimed by ISIS.
