TIRANA: Clashes broke out late Monday in Tirana between opposition protesters and police personnel seeking that longtime Prime Minister Edi Rama quits, leaving ten officers injured, police stated.

A few thousand people assembled in the Albanian capital city at protests organized by the country’s right-wing opposition party, AFP reported.

Scuffles first broke out in front of the government compound when protestors attempted to break through a police cordon and some of them threw Molotov cocktails.

The crowd then shifted toward the headquarters of Rama’s Socialist Party where more Molotov cocktails were thrown, setting on fire the entrance door and a banner with the prime minister’s image, the AFP journalist reported.

The protest demonstrators who want Rama to resign and a caretaker government to take over until next year’s elections, also targeted the interior ministry main office and the city hall with Molotov cocktails. A bus station and several containers were set on fire in the city. Police personnel deployed in large numbers, used teargas in a bid to disperse the crowd moving toward the parliament.
