CM Elahi Loses Majority in Punjab Assembly: Rana Sanaullah

LAHORE: Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan on Monday said that Chaudhry Parvez Elahi led the Punjab government had lost the majority in the Punjab Assembly, therefore Parvez Elahi should resign as Chief Minister Punjab.

Talking to the media outside Punjab Assembly, Rana said that Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, instead of making a desperate effort to take a vote of confidence or dissolve Punjab Assembly, should let the Punjab Assembly to elect a new chief Minister either through the run of election or majority basis.

The Minister said that today Chaudhry Parvez Elahi-led government tried every way out to achieve the majority number of 186 in the House, but it could only succeed as only 175 members were present, whereas the PML-N and its allies 179 members were present in

He said that after seeing its defeat in achieving a majority number of 186, the PTI adjourned the session till tomorrow. He added that they would again make a desperate attempt to get a vote of confidence tomorrow but would fail.

The minister said that on one side, PTI Chairman Imran Khan wanted the Chief Minister to get a vote of confidence in the Punjab Assembly. In contrast, on the other hand, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi wished to refrain from a vote of confidence as he knew that he had lost the majority in House.

The Federal Minister said that Chaudhry Parvez Elahi was no more the chief Minister of Punjab.

He said that PML-N’s parliamentary leader in PA, Hamza Shehbaz, would be the chief ministerial candidate of the PML-N, adding that PML-N would not accept if the present Speaker of Punjab Assembly would lead the vote of confidence session.

The Minister demanded that anyone from the Panel of Chairman be assigned to lead the PA’s vote of confidence session to maintain impartiality.

He said that PTI chief Imran Khan always tried every tactic to destabilize the country and create chaos through long marches and rallies.
