ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has shared the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government’s scorecard after one year in office, stating that it was a “successful tenure” that resulted in the country restoring its credibility and overcoming financial and energy challenges.

In a Twitter thread, PM Shehbaz informed people that over the last year, Pakistan has largely succeeded in establishing its credibility as a partner and friend. He mentioned that despite economic landmines laid by the previous government and disruptions in global food and fuel supply lines, Pakistan’s economy continued to stay afloat, and sincere efforts were underway to revive it.

Recalling the time when a no-confidence resolution was passed against the previous government, the prime minister said that it was “unprecedented” not because the PDM alliance came into power but because all political parties came together to vote out the previous government through constitutional means.

PM Shehbaz Sharif said the coalition government has been at pains to rebuild, repair, and deepen Pakistan’s diplomatic ties that the previous government dealt a severe blow. He also mentioned that the government employed climate change diplomacy to present Pakistan’s case on the international stage.

PM Shehbaz said that in one year, the coalition government made serious efforts to diversify the energy sources to provide relief to the citizens. He also pointed out that inflation hit people hard globally, adding that the government expanded the social safety net and provided targeted subsidies mindful of its impact.

Government’s rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts

Discussing the unprecedented floods faced by the country last year, the premier said that the government undertook rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts with decisiveness, provided social protection to millions of people, and mobilised the international community, which was acknowledged by the world as outstanding.

Building on the public transport infrastructure, the federal government has focused on the early completion of development and transport infrastructure projects in Islamabad since its inception in April last year, with the idea of providing ease, comfort, and affordable mobility to the people.

PM Shehbaz concluded that reconciliation and cooperation, instead of confrontation, marked the new politics post-April 2022. He added that joining political parties with different manifestos for a shared national cause represents a major step forward in Pakistan’s political evolution.

The PDM-led federal government’s scorecard after one year in office was well-received by the public, who commended the government’s efforts to overcome the challenges faced by the country.
