Puerto López, Colombia: As President Gustavo Petro marks one year in office, Colombians across the country take stock of his left-wing government’s efforts.

In the town of Neiva, Yaneth Calvo clutches onto a framed photograph of her husband, a policeman who was killed during clashes in March 2023. Before Ricardo Arley Monroy was killed, Calvo says he “felt that the public force was being abandoned and that they were being deprived of many ways to defend themselves”.
