ISLAMABAD: National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage Lok Virsa celebrated International Women’s Day in a colorful ceremony here at Heritage Museum on Wednesday.
Major features of the event included a performance by female master artisans in different specialized craft fields like Kashmiri embroidery, Hazara embroidery, stone carving, doll making, truck art, decoration work, basketry work, motikari, calligraphy, etc., and live folk music show to pay tribute to eminent female folk artists.
The Day is celebrated across the world on March 8th to raise awareness for women’s equality and bring positive change in society.
Tribute to Women Artisans on International Women’s Day
The event ‘Tribute to Women Artisans and Folk Artists’ highlighted promoting the indigenous folk heritage of Pakistan along with contributions of eminent master artisans and folk artists in the promotion of the society.
Secretary National Heritage and Culture Division, Ms. Fareena Mazhar, graced the event as the chief guest.
In his welcoming remarks, the executive director Bilal Ahmad said that women artisans and artists were no lesser than their male counterparts adding that female folks can also work along with male artists to assist their families in financial need.
Amateur young signers from different schools and colleges paid rich tributes to eminent female artists like Noor Jahan, Abdida Perveen, Nayyara Noor, Mussarat Nazeer, Reshma, etc.
In her address, Ms. Fareena Mazhar underscored the importance of celebrating International Women’s Day, particularly with reference to culture. She said that the population of women in Pakistan is equal to men; hence the contribution of womenfolk in the development of society must be prioritized.
