According to Kashmir Media Service, call for the shutdown has been given by All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) and supported by the United (Muttahida) Jihad Council.

The shutdown is also aimed at protesting against unlawful arrests, booking of seven Kashmiri students under a draconian law, dismissal of Kashmiri government employees and confiscation of people’s properties.

The APHC in a statement urged the residents of the occupied territory to conduct protest demonstrations following Friday prayers in their respective mosques.

Notably, the students at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Hazratbal area of Srinagar held a significant demonstration on Tuesday after an Indian student studying at the institute posted a derogatory video clip on social media regarding the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

Furthermore, the Indian police took action on Monday by invoking the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) against seven students from the Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology in Ganderbal district for celebrating Australia’s win against India in the World Cup final.

As part of the ongoing crackdown, the authorities in the occupied territory are continuing to make arrests, terminating government employees in Kashmir, and confiscating people’s properties as punitive measures against those affiliated with the freedom movement.
