ISLAMABAD: In Indian illegally-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, a comprehensive shutdown is being observed today to commemorate the 7th martyrdom anniversary of Burhan Muzaffar Wani, a prominent youth leader.

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) issued the call for the shutdown to honour Wani and other martyrs of the Kashmir freedom movement.

The strike call has garnered support from various regional pro-freedom leaders and organisations. The APHC has additionally urged supporters to participate in a march toward Tral, Burhan Wani’s hometown, as a gesture of solidarity with the martyrs’ families, according to state media.

Despite being unlawfully detained, APHC leaders Bilal Ahmed Siddiqui and Noor Muhammad Fayaz conveyed messages from their jail cells, emphasizing that Burhan Wani would forever inspire the oppressed people of Kashmir.

Moreover, the APHC issued a statement in Srinagar expressing grave concerns over the recent announcement made by the occupation authorities. The announcement pertains to providing land to approximately 200,000 “homeless people” in the occupied territory. This move has raised suspicions among the masses as it is perceived as an attempt by the Narendra Modi-led Indian government to alter the demographic composition of Jammu and Kashmir. The concern stems from the fear of settling Indian Hindus permanently in the region.
