ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Azam Nazeer Tarar on Wednesday informed the upper house of the parliament that the appointment of the Rector for COMSATS University Islamabad is in the final stage.

Responding to concerns raised by Senator Dr. Zarqa regarding recent appointments and rule amendments by the interim Rector, Tarar explained that a search committee, established by the President, is in its final stages of selecting suitable candidates. He said that out of 80 applicants, three finalists will be recommended to the President for the ultimate decision.

Senator Dr. Zarqa accused the interim Rector of misusing authority, but Tarar refuted these claims, asserting no violations occurred.

He also dismissed allegations of rule changes within the university. Tarar highlighted COMSATS University’s esteemed status nationally and globally, underscoring its reputation as one of the country’s premier institutions.
