Conference on “Transport Connectivity for Regional Development” Held

BEIJING: Sohail Khan, the Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), participated in the virtual conference on “Transport Connectivity for Regional Development,” hosted by Pakistan during its chairmanship of the SCO Heads of Government Council.

In his remarks, Sohail Khan underscored the vital role of transportation in fostering trade, economic collaboration, and interpersonal connections among member states. He emphasized the practical implementation of measures by SCO countries to enhance transport links within the SCO region.

The Minister of Communications of Pakistan, Shahid Ashraf Tarar, warmly welcomed the participants. The conference provided a platform for experts from SCO member states to discuss various topics on the organization’s agenda. These included national strategies for advancing regional connectivity, developing transport and logistics infrastructure, aligning regulatory frameworks within the SCO, and addressing challenges such as decarbonizing the transport industry and adapting to climate change.

Altamash Wazir Khan, a national coordinator from Pakistan, summarized the conference’s outcomes.
