Conway will not Play Opening Test Against Australia

WELLINGTON: New Zealand Cricket announced on Wednesday that Devon Conway, the opening batsman for the Black Caps will not play 1st test against Australia due to thumb injury. He suffered the injury during last T20I against Australia in Auckland.

Consequently, Conway will be absent from the match set to commence in Wellington on Thursday. Images revealed damage to his left thumb, prompting his exclusion from the squad against New Zealand. Experienced batsman Henry Nicholls will replace Devon Conway.

Gary Stead, the head coach of New Zealand, expressed disappointment over Conway’s absence from the opening test match, emphasizing his significance at the top order. However, Stead welcomed Nicholls’ return, acknowledging his prowess and adaptability across various batting positions.

The team remain hopeful about Conway’s potential participation in the subsequent Test, scheduled to begin in Christchurch on March 8th.
