LOS ANGELES, United States: In what appeared to be a coordinated day of action against Israel’s war in Gaza, pro-Palestinian demonstrators blocked San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge Monday, completely halting traffic for hours.

Protest group A15 Action coordinated a “multi-city blockade… in solidarity with Palestine.”

The group said on its website: “In each city, we will identify and blockade major choke points in the economy, focusing on points of production and circulation with the aim of causing the most economic impact”.

Demonstrators held a banner reading “Stop the world for Gaza” on the Golden Gate Bridge.

Aerial footage showed traffic stuck in one direction on the bridge, while lanes in the other direction were empty. The police was present on the scene.

A15 Action said action was planned for places as far apart as Mexico City, Athens, Ho Chi Minh, Sydney, New York and Johannesburg.

A protest earlier in the day blocked a highway heading into O’Hare International Airport in Chicago.

Monday’s protest came as the tensions have been gripping Middle East, especially after Iran launched a large-scale aerial attack on Israel over the weekend.

Israel, however, largely fended off the attack with help from allies including Britain and the United States.

Israel is weighing its response to the offensive, which Iran said was in retaliation for Israeli strike on an Iranian consulate building in Syria that killed a top general.

US President Biden Monday said he was working to prevent conflict spreading.
