COP29 to Host Central Asia and Azerbaijan Energy Investment Forum

BAKU: Azerbaijan’s Deputy Energy Minister Orkhan Zeynalov has said that COP29 will host the Central Asia and Azerbaijan Energy Investment Forum. The minister said this at the first meeting of Central Asian energy ministers in Astana, Kazakhstan, Trend reported.

Zeynalov highlighted the importance of political will from the heads of state in creating various opportunities to bolster partnership relations between the countries. “The ‘Central Asia and Azerbaijan Energy Investment Forum’ will be conducted as part of COP29, which includes worldwide efforts and high-level events focused on the transition to green energy,” he stated.

The forum aims to bring together key stakeholders from Central Asia and Azerbaijan to explore investment opportunities and foster collaboration in the energy sector.

It was noted that the creation of the “Azerbaijan-Central Asia-Europe” green energy corridor and the next steps in this direction were also discussed.

During the meeting, significant progress was made towards formalizing the framework for green energy cooperation. Notably, the draft Agreement on Strategic Partnership in the development and transfer of green energy between Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan was agreed upon. This agreement marks a critical step towards a collaborative effort to advance green energy initiatives and reduce carbon emissions.

Furthermore, the Terms of Reference for the preparation of a preliminary feasibility study of the green energy corridor project were approved. The Italian CESI company has been selected to develop the feasibility study.
