DUBAI: Costa Rica supports a truce in the Hamas-Israel conflict, for the free flow of humanitarian help into Gaza and for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Foreign Minister Arnoldo Andre Tinoco said on Thursday. The Minister made these remarks in an interview with Arab News.
He said that they have clearly stated that they are in favor of an immediate truce and allowing humanitarian help to enter Gaza. The Minister added that they are vocal regarding the two-state solution — in peace, living together, as has been resolved several times by the United Nations.
Costa Rica Supports Ceasefire in Gaza: FM
Israel launched its military campaign in the Gaza Strip in response to the Oct. 7 Hamas surprise attack on Israel. Since then, the Israeli army has waged a ferocious air and ground offensive against Gaza, killing over 25,000 Palestinians, the Gaza health ministry said.
Tinoco said that Costa Rica’s rejection of militarism and support for diplomacy meant it was a strong believer in the UN’s authority and the significance of international law. He maintained that Costa Rica is a nation without an army. He added that they rely for their entire foreign policy and diplomatic efforts on the grounds of international law. He added that the resolutions of the UN are a very good guideline on how the nations should behave vis a vis this crisis.
