ISLAMABAD: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Punjab on Wednesday claimed to have arrested two high-profile terrorists of Islamic State (IS) during operations in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

The CTD identified one of the arrested terrorists as Muhammad Nabi, who was said to be the local commander of the IS.

According to a spokesperson for the CTD, IS commander Nabi had made a national identification card with a fake name and also remained in detention of Afghan forces in 2019.


After the withdrawal of American and NATO forces from Afghanistan and the subsequent Taliban’s capture of Kabul, Nabi escaped from Afghanistan and entered Pakistan illegally.

According to the CTD spokesperson, a huge cache of arms and ammunition and explosives was recovered from the arrested terrorists. The recovered arms and ammunition were to be used to execute terrorist activities in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, the CTD spokesperson said adding that the terrorists were also planning to target sensitive and vulnerable areas in the twin cities. Further investigation is under way, the spokesperson said.
