SHARM EL-SHEIKH: Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that it was a shared responsibility of the global community to find solutions to mitigate the effects of climate change.

In an interview with CNN on the sidelines of the COP27 summit, he said that “there is not going to be a planet for us to fight over unless climate crisis is solved”.

Bilawal said that Pakistan suffered a lot of damage due to the climate-induced devastating floods.

He said that there was no international mechanism to address the loss and damage arising from the adverse effects of climate change.

The foreign minister said that Pakistan contributes less than one per cent of global carbon emissions but it largely bears the brunt of climate change and is the 8th most affected country in the world.

He said that former prime minister of Pakistan Imran Khan’s visit to Russia during Russia-Ukraine war was mis-interpreted and it was falsely portrayed that Pakistan was taking sides on the issue.

While strongly condemning a recent assassination attempt on Imran Khan, the foreign minister called for an impartial and proper probe into the incident.

Bilawal as well as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other Pakistani officials are currently in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, to attend the 27th UN conference on climate change.
