CPEC Generates 190,000 Jobs During Nine Years in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a pilot project of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), has generated over 190,000 jobs since its inception in 2013, a Chinese official said on Sunday.

Meng Wie, the spokesman of China’s National Development and Reform Commission said in a statement that both countries established the Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) on the mega-project CPEC in 2013. It was mainly focusing bilateral cooperation in Gwadar port, infrastructure, energy, and industries.

The spokesman said that in recent years, the two brotherly countries have also expanded their cooperation to other fields such as science and technology, information technology, and agriculture.

According to China News Service, the spokesman added that the outcome of bilateral cooperation could be represented by the Gwadar East Bay Expressway project, the Carlot Hydropower station, the Gwadar Seawater Desalination project, and Chinese aid to the fold-hit areas in Pakistan.

Moreover, the two friendly countries will accelerate their cooperation in the fields of mining, agriculture, information technology, and CPEC, Meng Wie added.
