RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s cricket team defeated Bhutan by 9 wickets in the semifinal to reach the final of the ACC Men’s Challenger Cup 2023, Arab media reported on Friday.  The KSA team will meet Bahrain in the final match on Sunday.

The semifinal match was played between Saudi Arabia and Bhutan at the Asian Institute of Technology Ground in Bangkok. Bhutan won the toss and decided to bat first. The bowlers of the KSA made it impossible for the Bhutan cricket team to put a healthy total on board, and they just scored 62 runs in 22.2 overs in the semifinal.

A stunning bowling spell by Ishtiaq Ahmed limited Bhutan to a small total. Ahmed took four crucial wickets in the match. Only two batters from Bhutan reached double figures as Suprit Pradhan scored 24 and Tenzin Wangchuk made 14 runs in the match.

Chasing that modest target, KSA cruised to 63 runs for the loss of one wicket in 12.3 overs. Waqar Ul-Hassan made 41 runs while Saad Khan scored 16 runs in the match.

ACC Men’s Challenger Cup acts as a path to September’s 2023 Asia Cup in Pakistan, which itself is a preparatory competition for the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup in October.
