NEW DEHLI: In an odd turn of events, the Indian authorities have registered a case against Australian cricketer Mitchell Marsh, alleging his disrespect toward the ICC World Cup 2023 trophy.

This follows Australia’s victory over India in the final held at Ahmedabad’s cricket stadium on November 19th, marking Australia’s sixth triumph in the quadrennial tournament.

Following the win, a viral image depicted Marsh seated with the World Cup trophy beneath his feet, prompting criticism from Indian cricket enthusiasts. A social activist from Aligarh lodged a complaint with the police, urging action against Marsh for what was seen as a disregard for the prestigious trophy.

The activist forwarded a copy of the FIR to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who presided over the World Cup’s grand ceremony. The demand was made for the Prime Minister to impose a ban on Marsh’s future appearances in India for any cricket matches as a consequence of this incident.
