HARARE: Former Zimbabwean cricketer Guy Whittall has been hospitalized following a frightening encounter with a leopard, local media reported on Friday. The incident took place earlier, saying to Whittall’s history of close calls with wildlife. Earlier, he narrowly escaped an encounter with a large crocodile. Confirmation of the leopard encounter came from Whittall’s wife, Hannah Stooks-Whittall, via a social post. She said that despite the seriousness of the present situation, Whittall’s wounds were not as severe as they could have been.
The incident shows the inherent risks of living in regions where encounters with dangerous wildlife are very common, as is the case in Zimbabwe. After retiring from cricket, Whittall ventured into the safari business with his family in Humani, where the recent incident took place while tracking an injured leopard.
