Crimes Against Women Uncontrollable: Rahul Gandhi Slamming BJP over Torture of Indian Army Officer, Fiancée

NEW DELHI: Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi, has denounced the BJP-led government in Odisha, alleging it of fostering an atmosphere where crimes against women are completely uncontrollable and unchecked.

His remarks follow after an Indian Army officer and his fiancée were tortured in police custody in Odisha’s Bharatpur. Reacting to the matter, Gandhi has strongly criticized BJP for the worst law and order situation in India.

According to media reports, an Indian army officer and his fiancée were tortured in police custody. Rahul Gandhi said that it is a shame on India. He added under the BJP rule, crimes against women have become totally uncontrolled and unbridled.

Indian Doctor’s Rape-Murder

Rahul Gandhi remarks came as earlier, thousands of people were staging protest demonstrations in over 130 cities across 25 countries to demand justice after last month’s rape and murder of a trainee doctor at a hospital in Kolkata, India.

The protest demonstrations started in large and small groups across Australia, Japan, Singapore and Taiwan, before spreading to cities in several European nations. Sixty protest demonstrations were planned in the United States.

Although laws were introduced following the 2012 gruesome gang rape and murder of a 23-year-old student on a moving bus in New Delhi, India but analysts and members of civil society say the Kolkata case shows how women continue to suffer from sexual violence in India.
