ISLAMABAD: Those aspiring to be successful in the Central Superior Services (CSS) examination need to focus on enhancing their intellectual abilities and developing a reading habit, an exam trainer, Aftab Ali Khan Musa, told APP on Friday.

The CSS exam tests a candidate’s intellectual abilities and not just their knowledge, Musa said.

Competition exams demand a daily reading habit of at least 15 pages, while CSS applicants look for quick cuts and rely on past exam papers, he added.

Musa claimed that one of the leading causes of the low pass rate is the need for more instruction given to students, which necessitates the growth of analytical abilities and developing a serious reading habit.

Only 393 out of 20,672 candidates cleared CSS in 2022

He added that 20,672 candidates appeared for the CSS exam last year, and out of these only 393 candidates were successful.

He noted that many students fear failure, leading them to drop out even before taking the exam, despite having three attempts available.

Musa explained that students prefer to avoid the process of learning and only seek degrees as a gate pass to jobs. “They are more focused on outcomes and want faster results,” he added.

He said the CSS exam is highly competitive and prestigious, and passing the exam opens up various career opportunities in federal government departments. He advised students to appear for the exam with preparation and confidence.
