HAVANA, Cuba: Cuba’s President, Miguel Diaz-Canel, has called for an immediate end to the Israel-Hamas conflict in the Gaza Strip, denouncing what he termed a “genocide committed by the terrorist state of Israel.”
Diaz-Canel expressed concern over the prolonged violence, emphasizing the need to halt the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
In a recent statement, Diaz-Canel described Israel’s actions in Gaza as a “humiliation for all humanity” and questioned the duration of the impunity surrounding the conflict. Cuba has consistently condemned the violence in Palestine, with its parliament declaring solidarity with the Palestinian people.
On December 20, the Cuban Congress issued a resolution condemning the killing of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza, with a particular focus on the disproportionate impact on children and women. The resolution attributed the current situation to decades of Israeli practices involving illegal occupation and colonization.
Cuba’s condemnation extends to the perceived complicity of the United States in obstructing UN Security Council actions through its veto power. The resolution asserted that Israel’s actions have been fueled by confidence in avoiding consequences due to U.S. support.
