ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced its commitment to advancing environmental sustainability in the capital city by implementing significant measures, including introducing an automated car parking system, deploying electric buses (E-buses), citywide tree-plantation initiatives, and creating an extensive bicycle route network to foster climate-friendly E-mobility.

In an interview with a private news channel, Nauman Khalid, the spokesperson for CDA, stated, “To address carbon emissions and safeguard the environment, we are introducing cycling and E-bus projects in the federal capital. Over 200 electric buses will soon be operational on the roads of Islamabad.”

He emphasized that these new electric buses will offer an environmentally friendly mode of transportation and contribute to reducing traffic congestion, providing citizens with new commuting options, and fostering climate improvement.

Regarding the cycling project, Khalid explained, “The proposed cycling track is an ambitious initiative to create a secure citywide bicycle route network, encouraging safe and accessible cycling throughout Islamabad as a fair commuting alternative for residents.”

He also highlighted the collaboration with banks to implement an automated car parking system, addressing the long-standing parking challenges in the city.

Responding to a question about tree plantation, Khalid stated, “In collaboration with universities, CDA has launched an extensive tree plantation campaign to enhance the city’s green cover.”

He added, “CDA is working closely with citizens, especially educational institutions, to preserve the natural beauty of the capital, which was designed as a green city. ”

CDA aims to implement a comprehensive tree-plantation drive to prevent land re-encroachment and expand green spaces. Khalid emphasized the importance of planting new trees and developing strategies for properly maintaining existing trees.

“For the first time, a tree plantation campaign through the CDA website has been initiated, involving schools, seminaries, traders, and housing societies,” he mentioned, highlighting the inclusive nature of this environmental initiative. —APP
