KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned people of Karachi of heavy rain as cyclone Asna moves away from Sindh’s coastal belt. According to PMD’s alert the cyclonic storm has moved further westward in the upcoming hours and is now positioned regarding 200 km from Karachi, 220km away from Ormara, and 380km from Gwadar.
According to the alert the system is likely to track further west-southwestwards towards the coastal belt of Balochistan province and then towards Oman. However, the storm is expected to weaken and dissipate in the sea, posing no risk of making landfall on any coast, the Met Office said.
Cyclone Asna
The PMD’s forecast also shows a possibility of heavy rain with strong winds as well as intermittent thundershowers in Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Hyderabad, Sajawal, Tando Muhammad Khan and other districts of Sindh by today evening or at night.
Similarly, heavy rain is also expected in Hub, Awaran, Lasbella, Kech and Gwadar districts of Balochistan till Sunday night. During this time, the meteorological department has said that the sea conditions may remain rough as sea winds are likely to blow at 60 to 70km/hour in the metropolis.
Fishermen of Sindh and Balochistan have been asked not to venture into sea today and Sunday. Similarly, the traffic police in Karachi advised drivers to drive at a slower speed and at a distance from other vehicles as the city received heavy rain throughout last night under the influence of cyclone Asna.
