ISLAMABAD:  Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has announced to introduce a resolution in response to the US resolution regarding general elections in the country. Speaking in the National Assembly, the Minister said that they would introduce a resolution to answer the US over the matter. He said that they have taken notice and have prepared a draft resolution, which will be shared with everyone including opposition.  He asked the treasury and the opposition benches to must show unity and sovereignty over the matter. He rejected the impression that Pakistan faces isolation at the global level.

A day earlier, the US House of Representatives approved a non-binding resolution by 368 votes to 7, calling for an impartial probe into the alleged interference and irregularities in the February 8 polls.

Earlier, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said that US resolution on Pakistan’s 2024 general elections reflects an incomplete understanding of the nation’s political situation and electoral procedures.

She emphasized that Pakistan views the timing and context of the resolution as discordant with the positive trajectory of Pakistan-US bilateral ties. The spokesperson highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to constitutionalism, human rights, and the rule of law, underscoring these as integral to national interests.

She affirmed Pakistan’s stance on constructive dialogue and engagement rooted in mutual respect and comprehension, labeling such resolutions as counterproductive and lacking in objectivity. Baloch expressed hope that the US Congress would contribute positively to strengthening Pakistan-US relations by focusing on collaborative opportunities beneficial to both nations and their peoples.
