Date Festival Starts in Saudi Arabia

RIYADH: The Buraidah Dates Festival started in Saudi Arabia’s central Qassim province on Tuesday.

This festival presents the farmers of the Kingdom an opportunity to get updates about the modern agricultural technologies and provide a platform to exchange expertise.

Saudi Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture said in a statement that the Kingdom’s date exports touched 321,000 tonnes last year, valued at $341 million, according to Xinhua.

Saudi Arabia’s Dates Production

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s annual date production surpassed 1.6 million tonnes, with more than three hundred varieties.

The Qassim region boasts the palm trees’ highest number in the Kingdom, 11.2 million trees, followed by Madinah Munawwarah with 8.3 million, the capital city Riyadh with 7.7 million, and the Eastern region with 4.1 million.

Saudi Arabia tries to increase its date sales in both local and international markets, which play a key role in the economy of the country.

The festival, being organized at the Palm Center in the city of Buraidah, will run until August 25.
