KYIV: UK’s Foreign Secretary David Cameron has traveled to Kyiv and met President Volodymyr Zelensky for discussions on his first foreign trip since assuming office, Western media reported on Thursday.
In a video posted by Zelensky’s office said that former prime minister Cameron, who was just assume charge of Britain’s new foreign minister on Monday, visited Ukraine to highlight London’s support for Kyiv.
Lauding the gesture by UK foreign minister which comes amid a conflict in the Middle East, which Zelensky said had drawn global attention away from Ukraine’s war with Russia.
He said that the world is not so focused on the situation of Ukraine.
UK a close ally of Ukraine
UK has been a close ally of Ukraine against its war with Russia that started in February 2022.
Cameron assured Ukraine of full moral, diplomatic and military support that they need not just this year and next year, but however long it takes.
He said that Britain would continue to work with its allies to make sure the world’s attention is here in Ukraine.
The Ukrainian statement did mention the venue of the talks. Strict security measures are in place due to the war. The details of visits by foreign dignitaries are released sometimes only after they have happened.
