Death Anniversary of Renowned Poet Riaz-Ur-Rehman Sagar Observed

ISLAMABAD: The 11th death anniversary of legendry lyricist and poet Riaz-ur-Rehman Sagar was observed on Sunday and rich tribute was paid to him for his services to the Pakistani film industry.

He was born in Bathinda, Punjab on December 1, 1941. Later his family migrated to Pakistan after the independence of sub-continent.

Saghar discovered his love of poetry during his school days. He entered Emerson College Multan for Intermediate Studies, where his poetry attracted large crowds.

He moved to Lahore where he found a job at Lail-o-Nahar, an Urdu-language weekly magazine. He then joined daily Nawa-i-Waqt daily newspaper.

Riaz-ur-Rehman’s published works include ‘Arz Kiya Hai’, ‘Wo Bhi Kya Din Thay’, ‘Aangan Aangan Taaray’ and ‘Chand Jharokay Mai’.

He wrote more than 2,000 songs in his career and also authored stories for 75 films including Shama, Susraal, Naukar, Nazrana, Shabana, Aawaz, Aurat aik paheli, Bharosa, Tarana and Moor.

He had won much recognition and many awards for his work in his lifetime. He passed away on June 1, in 2013 at age of 71 in Lahore.
