LAHORE: Forty-sixth death anniversary of eminent Pakistani poet and literary figure Sufi Ghulam Mustafa Tabassum being observed today (Wednesday).
His fans are set to observe his death anniversary to pay homage to the great poet for his matchless literary work.
Known for a beloved character ‘Tot Batot’, Ghulam Mustafa Tabassum was born 4 August 1899 in Amritsar, British India, to Kashmiri parents.
He received a master’s degree in Persian from Forman Christian College in Lahore and later joined Government College Lahore where he served till his retirement.
He translated numerous poetical works from Urdu and Persian into Punjabi language.
Sufi Tabassum was a prolific speaker and writer, and his works were recognized widely for their insight and beauty.
He was also a speaker on radio and television, where his deep understanding of the literary arts made him a popular personality.
Tabassum, throughout his career, received numerous awards for his contributions to the literary world, including Pride of Performance, Tamgha-e-Nishane-Sipas award from the Government of Iran in 1966, Sitara-iImtiaz by the Government of Pakistan and Nishan-i-Imtiaz by the President of Pakistan in 2023.
