Death Toll From Landslide in Georgia Rises to 19

SHOVI: The death toll from a landslide incident that occurred in the tourist town of Shovi in the mountains of Georgia last week rose to nineteen, the chief of the Emergency Management Agency of the country said on Tuesday.

Temur Mghebrishvili said that body of another woman was found during rescue operations, thus raising the casualties toll.

He added that search and rescue operations continued uninterruptedly round the clock, according to Anadolu Agency.

Landslide’s Site

Shovi, nearly 140 kilometers northwest of the capital city of Tbilisi, is a popular tourist location.

Officials said the landslide was caused by heavy rainfall, aggravated by erosion in the area.
