Defendant Convicted in Japan Arson Trial, Sentencing to Follow

KYOTO, Japan: A Japanese court Thursday found guilty the perpetrator of a 2019 arson attack on an animation studio that killed as many as 36 people, with sentencing expected later in the day, reported local media today.

Shinji Aoba had admitted to starting the blaze at the studios of Kyoto Animation on July 18, 2019, in Japan’s deadliest crime in decades, which traumatized anime fans in the country and abroad.
