LAHORE, Pakistan: Lahore Airport, shrouded in an unprecedented foggy blanket, witnessed chaotic flight operations Wednesday.
With visibility dropping to a mere 50 meters, stringent measures were implemented, requiring pilots to seek permission from Air Traffic Control (ATC) before attempting landings or take-offs.
In response to the challenging conditions, the airport authorities took the critical decision to close the runway, resulting in a halt to all flight operations. This closure led to numerous flight cancellations and significant schedule alterations, affecting various airlines.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a warning of dense fog in various parts of Punjab, impacting visibility and leading to disruptions in flight operations at Lahore Airport.

The Met Office’s advisory indicates dry and cold weather for parts of Punjab over the next twelve hours, with continental air prevailing across the country. Despite administrative efforts, Lahore is experiencing hazardous air quality, registering over 250 on air quality indices.
The dense fog and smog are expected to persist in several regions, including Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Okara, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Toba Tek Singh, Khanewal, Multan, Khanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Hafizabad, Bhakkar, Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, and surrounding areas.
Flight PK 185 to Sharjah, PIA’s PK 898 bound for Kuala Lumpur, and Airblue’s PA 471 from Jeddah all faced cancellations. To accommodate the adverse weather, some flights, including PK 204 from Dubai to Lahore and PA 411, were rescheduled.
As the fog-induced disruptions persist, passengers are advised to stay informed about the status of their flights and anticipate potential delays or changes to their travel plans.
